A Glimpse into Our Origin
Allan Andrews is remembered for his kindness, his expertise in hockey, gifts of music and story telling, and committment to the well-being of Island youth and their families. Our programs are inspired by the ongoing positive impact of Allan's belief in the potential of individuals to realize their goals. Before founding the Andrews Hockey Growth Programs over 44 years ago, he directed the PEI Allied Youth organization. Allan is a member of the PEI Sports Hall of Fame and received the Order of Canada for his contribution to the health of Canadians. All donations to this registered charity support the organization's programs and advance its mission by helping people of all ages to have a dream and something to shoot for.

Physical activity shaping life in positive ways
Physical activity engagement is the regular, sustained and consistent involvement in wellness pursuits such as leisure, fitness or sport experiences including the many alternative forms of physical activity that can lead to improved health. Things like culturally relevant recreational and leisure activities, dance, yoga, free field play, fitness activities, sports experiences, walking, using active transportation and more.
Physical activity has many health benefits. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) acknowledges that regular physical activity is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, some types of cancer, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, bone and joint disease, and depression. The CMA recommends the goal of at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per day for children and youth aged 5 to 17, and 150 minutes per week for adults.
