A Glimpse into Our Origin
This charitable organization evolved out of Allan Andrews' vision of relieving barriers so young people and others can live active and dream big. Allan was the driving spirit behind the formation of Andrews Dream Big Assist Fund. Our programs are inspired by the ongoing far reaching positive impact of his steadfast belief in the power of individuals to dream big and realize their goals. Before founding the Andrews Hockey Growth Programs over 44 years ago Allan directed the PEI Allied Youth organization. An Order of Canada recipient and a member of the PEI Sports Hall of Fame, Allan will always be remembered for his extensive contribution to the health and well-being of Canadians.
What is YOUR MOVE?
Physical activity engagement is the regular, sustained and consistent involvement in wellness pursuits such as leisure, fitness or sport experiences including the many alternative forms of physical activity that can lead to improved health. Things like culturally relevant recreational and leisure activities, dance, yoga, free field play, fitness activities, sports experiences, walking, using active transportation and more!
Physical activity has many health benefits. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) acknowledges that regular physical activity is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, some types of cancer, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, bone and joint disease, and depression. The CMA recommends the goal of at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per day for children and youth aged 5 to 17, and 150 minutes per week for adults.
